Abstract

<PICT:1035313/C6-C7/1> An insulating anode support of expanded polyvinyl chloride is given a chemically deposited coating of silver or copper to make it conducting and is then electro-plated with active metal such as indium, or indium with bismuth, or zinc, lead or cadmium. For plating indium on a silver coated support, the plating bath contains 45 gms/litre indium sulphate and 10 gms/litre sodium sulphate, is adjusted to a pH of 2.6 to 2.8 and plated at 5 to 10 amp per square foot of area of support. For an indium-bismuth anode, the plated electrode is immersed for 5 secs in bismuth chloride solution. Alternatively the silver coated anode is plated in a bath containing 45 gms/litre indium sulphate, 45 gms/litre sodium gluconate and 0.05 gms/litre bismuth ammonium citrate at pH of 2 to 2.5 and 5 to 10 amp per square foot.
