Abstract

1,033,557. Shot-gun cartridges. R. W. COMERFORD. June 10, 1963 [June 25, 1962], No. 23044/63. Heading F3A. A shot-gun cartridge comprises a single wad 28 and a shot-receiving extension 29 which components may or may not be formed integrally with one another, and are preferably made from a low density polyethylene. The wad may have reinforcing ribs 38 and a skirt 32, which acts as a gas check, and the extension 29 is weakened such as by longitudinal slits 33 to form segments which open out when the extension leaves the barrel to free the shot and facilitate the recovery of the wad and extension. The shot may be supported by a disc 36 of paper or the like, or alternatively, where the extension is tapered, Fig. 2 (not shown), a disc 43 may be formed integrally with the wad and a paper or like disc 36 used to close the rear of the wad. In a further embodiment the wad and support for the shot are formed by a quantity of fibrous material 65, Fig. 6 (not shown).
