Abstract

1,034,890. Practice projectiles. INDUSTRIE WERKE KARLSRUHE A.G. Dec. 24, 1963 [March 27, 1963]. No. 50854/63. Heading F3A. A disruptible hollow bullet is made from at last two synthetic resins of different rigidity and partly or wholly filled with an easily disintegrating mass. The bullet 2 fixed in the neck of a cartridge 1 comprises a front portion 3 butt-jointed to a body portion 4 which is stepped inwardly at 5, an inner bottom 6 closed at the rear end, and a cap 7 which is forced over the bottom 6 such that an extended cylindrical portion 8 extends to the edge of the shoulder 5. The portions 3, 4 and 6 are made from polyethylene and the cap 7 from polystyrene. Parts 3 and 4 are friction-welded together at 9 and parts 6 and 7 are joined by adhesive. The part 8 of the cap 7 is thickened to serve as a driving band. The bullet may be filled with loose or compressed materials of different densities. Other embodiments have a separate inner bottom of polyethylene lining the polystyrene cap or have front and body portions constructed from an outer layer of polyethylene and an inner layer of polystyrene.
