Abstract

<PICT:1033427/C6-C7/1> An electroplating barrel 1, which is rotatable about a horizontal axis and is provided with a door 21 in its cylindrical surface has a lost motion coupling with its driving unit which coupling allows the barrel to be turned into positions required for loading and emptying, i.e. with its door rear or at the top or bottom respectively, regardless of the position in which the driving unit stops without uncoupling the driving unit from the barrel. As shown the barrel 1 is rotated by means of a pinion 4 engaging a gear 3 which is rotatably mounted on an end plate 2 of the barrel. On rotating the gear 3, a pin 23 extending from the gear 3 engages with an abutment 22 radically extending from the end plate 2 and so turns the barrel, the pin 23 and abutment 22 providing the lost motion coupling. An electrode 14 carries current to articles being treated.
