Abstract

1313606 Electro-plating barrels S KANAZU 17 June 1970 [3 July 1969] 29476/70 Heading C7B In a barrel for surface treatment, e.g. electroplating, of metal parts, including an opening through which the parts may be charged and discharged, the opening is closable by an inwardly opening door such that if the barrel is rotated in one direction the door is closed when the opening is at the bottom of the barrel, thus retaining the parts within the barrel; but that if the barrel is rotated in the opposite direction the door remains open when the opening is at the bottom of the barrel, allowing the parts to discharge from the barrel. The barrel shown is hexagonal in crosssection and provided with a door 9. Rotation is provided by a chain drive via gears 6 and 7, and current is supplied to electrodes 11 via rods 2. The apparatus may include a series of tanks, Fig. 1 (not shown) provided with bus bars which supply current to the rods 2, and a track mounted carrier system for sequential immersing of the barrel in a series of tanks prior to reversal of the direction of rotation of the barrel and resultant discharge of the work load. The barrel may be circular in cross-section.
