Abstract

1,033,131. Knitting-machines. WILLIAM COTTON Ltd. May 9, 1963 [May 5,1962], No. 17360/62. Heading D1C. A fabric take off needle in a straight bar machine has a specially shaped hook to prevent its being pulled through the fabric. A straight bar knitting machine transfers the welt portion of a fabric to a different frame in order that the main body, portion may be knitted. After transfer, inital take off needles 1 take the fabric and pull it back to a position where it can be taken by yarn drawoff hooks 36 on a continuous belt 37 Fig. 7 (not shown). After the fabric has been taken by the hooks 36 the needle 1 is taken out of action. A solid soldered on piece 7 (Fig. 1) is provided on the front of the needle to prevent the needle pulling through the fabric. Alternatively the bright end of the hook may be bent back on itself to form a narrow loop 9 Fig. 2 (not shown) transverse to the loop 8 through which the prong 4 of the hook extends.
