Abstract

1,032,701. Container closures. V. B. CETRONE. Nov. 4, 1963, No. 43400/63. Heading B8T. A threaded plug 11 of resilient resinous material seals an opening of a container 10 having an internally threaded sleeve 16 tapered at 19 extending through the opening by engaging the tapered portion 19 by means of a knife-like edge 26 of diameter greater than the smallest diameter of the sleeve bore but smaller than the largest diameter of the sleeve bore, the plug being of softer material than the sleeve to allow for slight deformation of the knife-like edge to give a fluid-tight seal. The knife-like edge may be formed at the bottom of an annular shoulder 24 integral with the plug. The plug may be made tamperproof by being provided with a disc 12 (Fig. 3, not shown), which either seats in a groove in the plug or has projections 34 fitting within recesses 32 in lugs 25 formed within the plug, the lugs being used for removing the plug by means of a wrench after the disc has been broken. The plug may have a recess which faces inwardly, any pressure within the container causing the lower portion of the plug to expand radially outwardly into tight sealing engagement with the container sleeve. The sleeve may be made of nylon and have ribs 37 (Fig. 10, not shown) which engage the interior of the container to effect a tight seal or have a gasket interposed between the sleeve and the container. The plug may be formed of acetal plastics material.
