Abstract

1,030,322. Vehicle couplings. WESSEX INDUSTRIES (POOLE) Ltd. June 29, 1964 [March 29, 1963], No. 12652/63. Heading B7T. A towing tug 1 having a steerable wheel 2 is provided with pairs of lined jaws 11 which may be closed around bars &c. 10 to couple the tug with the trailer. By operating a lever 19 or other means the upper movable jaws 13 may be moved downwardly about pivots 14 to co-operate with the fixed jaws 12 and embrace the bars 10, sufficient force being applied to lift the rear wheels 4 of the tug off the ground. Other means connected above or below the coupling may be provided to turn the vehicles about their horizontal coupling axis and transfer weight from the trailer to the towing vehicle. A pivoted hook 8 is also provided to co-operate with the eye 9 of another trailer.
