Abstract
576,649. Hand trucks. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and PETTY, G. E. April 19, 1944, No. 7225. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (v)] A vehicle for use in towing and manoeuvring aircraft on the ground, which is of relatively small size and overall height, is electrically propelled, is controlled as to direction and speed by a manually-operated tiller bar, and has located substantially centrally on its upper surface means for attaching a towing bar. The vehicle preferably has a driving motor for each axle, and' four-wheel steering. The tow bar is preferably mounted on a cover-plate which can be swung up to expose the batteries, and which serves to guide the tow bar on to the pin to which it is hitched. Vertical movements of the detachable tiller bar 12 release the brakes and control the speed of the motor 3, horizontal movements give four-wheel steering, or brakes one of the tracks if the vehicle is of the endless-track type. The batteries 4 are situated between the axles and are enclosed by a hinged cover-plate 5 which carries a pin 8 to which the tow bar is attached, engagement being facilitated by a guide-plate 17. The towing pin 8 is carried in a yoke 9 mounted with a shock-absorber spring at 11. The tow bar may comprise two arms 14, 15 provided with hooked ends 14<1>, 15<1> and pivoted at their other ends to a plate 16 provided with a " snap-on " connector to engage the pin 8. When not in use, the tow bars are carried on a rest 18 and are attached to a pin 19.
