In a vehicle heater the air flow between a heat exchange matrix 4, a by-pass 7 and an outlet 6 is controlled by a valve member 10 pivoted about an axis 9 and comprising quadrant-shaped end walls (as indicated by full lines), a radial wall 11 and a circumferential wall 12. Turning of the valve member between the extreme positions shown enables the proportions of hot and cold air delivered to be varied. The portion of the heater casing 1 near the outlet is arcuate and the arcuate portion may be extended as shown at 18 to prevent any leakage of hot air to the outlet when the valve member is set for unheated air supply only.
