Abstract

818,514. Heating arrangements for parked vehicles. NILSSON, R. Feb. 14, 1958, No. 4898/58. Class 64(3) In an arrangement in which the liquid coolant system of a vehicle engine, a thermally actuated valve 13 is provided in a coolant duct 10 interconnecting the upper part of the engine block 6 and the upper header 7b of the radiator 7, the engine coolant system is adapted to be connected into a stationary hot water circulating system when the vehicle is parked overnight, one conduit 3a of the hot water system being connected to the bottom header 7a of the vehicle radiator and the other conduit 5a of the hot water system being connected to the upper part of the engine block, the thermostatic valve 13 preventing any appreciable flow through the duct 10 during parking. In the system shown, the hot water circulates also through a space heater 12 provided in the vehicle. The conduits 3a, 5a of the hot water system are connected to the vehicle through couplings 14a, 14b respectively which may be of a self closing type and which are interconnected when the vehicle is in use.
