Abstract
1,208,773. Storage heaters. ALEXANDER DUNN Ltd. 1 May, 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 5085/67. Heading F4U. A storage heater comprises a storage core, a main air flow passage for air to be heated by the core, a by-pass passage, a fan casing in circuit with both passages, a valve for apportioning air between the passages, and a fan for recirculating air through the passages. As shown, a fan 14 has two outlets 18, 19 communicating respectively with the space to be heated and a passage 20. Air flowing through the latter passes through a water tank 17 then, depending on the position of flap valves 25, through a by-pass 23 and/or passages 22 in the electrically heated storage core 11. Heated air and air from the by-pass return to the fan inlet via coaxial passages 21 and 24. Part of the heated air from passage 21 may be deflected into passage 24 by fixed or pivoted flaps 27 to increase the temperature of the water in tank 17. A further flap valve 26 is provided in the outlet 18. Valves 25 are thermostatically controlled, the temperature being sensed in the upper or low fan casing outlet, in the lower part of passage 20, in passage 23, at the outlet ends of passages 21 and 24, or in the room to be heated. Valve 26 may be controlled by a room thermostat. The heater may be used for air heating only or water heating only.
