1370304 Junction devices; water heaters A J PAVELEY and G M HAWKLEY 12 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47609/71 Heading F4U and F4A A central heating system comprises a boiler 10, a heat exchanger 11 which includes a coil arrangement 127, 129 for indirectly heating a domestic water supply, a junction piece 12, and space heating radiators 14. The junction piece includes a first inlet 29 from the heat exchanger 11, a second inlet 19 from the boiler 10, a first outlet 20 to the heat exchanger, a second outlet 35 to the boiler, an outlet 36 controlled by a valve 39 to the space heating radiators inlet connections 40, and an inlet controlled by a bellows valve 45 for receiving fluid from the outlet connections of the radiators 43. In operation, with the temperature of the water system low, the valve 45 will be closed and water will not flow through the radiators. Water is passed by the pump 13 into the heat exchanger housing 23 and issues from the heat exchanger through the pipe 28 into inlet 29. A proportion of the water passes through the connector 31 to the outlet 20, the rest passing to the boiler via outlet 35. Upon the water in the system reaching a predetermined temperature, the valve 45 opens and heated water will then start to flow through the fluid flow circuit which includes the radiators.
