A concrete structure is post-tensioned with a stranded cable 1 by forming a protuberance 7 on the cable, fitting a shell 41 about the protuberance, the shell being internally and externally screw-threaded, attaching a jack to the shell via a retaining member screwed into the shell, tensioning the cable, and tightening a locknut 42 against the end-plate 34 of the concrete structure.
