Abstract
1331994 Prestressed concrete J S SIMMS 25 Sept 1970 [26 Sept 1969] 45869/70 Heading E1W [Also in Division F2] To facilitate the cutting of prestressing tendons in a pre-tensioned or post-tensioned concrete construction, a slotted spacer e.g. 202, is employed inside a jacking chair, e.g. 221, between a chuck e.g. 225 with gripping jaws and either an end wall 211 of a prestressing bed or an end plate 315 of the concrete construction. In the. former embodiment (Fig. 12), a release plunger 203 is mounted on the tendon to release the jaws of the chuck after the tendon is further stretched by a fluid-actuated jack after the concrete is set, and the slotted spacer has been removed from the tendon. In the latter embodiment (Fig. 13), the release plunger is not required, the tendon 305 being grouted in its sheath 317 before de-tensioning, and thereafter welded at 322 to plate 315. The chuck 310 and spacer 302 are rewound before this welding by re-tensioning the tendon to a small degree, allowing the spacer to be removed, there being enough room for the chuck to be moved towards the plate 315 to release the jaws thereof.
