1,027,191. Vices. W. P. G. SARIS and M. L. SARIS, [trading as F. J. SARIS EN ZOON]. Jan. 18, 1963 [Jan. 23, 1962], No. 2396/62. Heading B3B. In a bench vice comprising a movable front jaw 2 adapted to be operated by fluid pressure acting in a cylinder 16 provided with a piston 18, a screw spindle 5 rotatable by means of a handle 6, but axially fixed, is mounted in the jaw 2 for adjusting the position of the said jaw. One end of a sleeve 11 is screwed on the spindle 5, the sleeve being slidable in the movable jaw but held non-rotatably thereon by providing two flat surfaces 12 along the full length of the sleeve and a correspondingly shaped opening 13 in the cylindrical part of the jaw 2. The other end of the sleeve is connected to the piston rod 14 of the piston 18. The jaw 2 is guided relatively to the stationary jaw 1 by a V-shaped ridge on a guide plate 8 the said ridge accurately fitting into a corresponding groove in the cylindrical portion of the jaw 2. Compressed air is admitted to the cylinder via the conduit 22 to cause the piston 18 to move towards the left and the jaws to close. The piston stroke is limited by an adjustable bolt 24 which projects through the cylinder wall 17.
