Abstract
Abrasive granules, for brazing to a metal base, e.g. steel to provide an abrasive tool, are produced by fracturing a sintered metal carbide body, selecting fractured granules finer than the ultimate granule size, re-sintering the finer granules to produce an agglomerated mass and fracturing this mass to produce the abrasive granules. The metal carbides may be of W, Ti, Ta, Nb, Cr, Mo, B or Si bonded with Co, Ni or Fe. Additional bonding metal may be added before re-sintering.ALSO:Abrasive granules, for brazing to a metal base to provide an abrasive tool, are produced by fracturing a sintered metal carbide body, selecting fractured granules finer than the ultimate granule size, re-sintering the finer granules to produce an agglomerated mass and fracturing this mass to produce the abrasive granules. The metal carbides may be of W, Ti, Ta, Nb, Cr, Mo, B or Si bonded with Co, Ni, or Fe. Additional bonding metal may be added before re-sintering.
