Abstract

A complex abrasive element is formed of a mixture of sintered carbide and cubic crystals of BN. In the process of mfre., a mass of sintered carbide, or powdered sinterable carbide, a more reduced mass of cubic BN crystals and a source of Al and o Ni, Co, Mn, Fe, V or Cr, are surrounded by a protective metal. The shole is submitted to 1300-1600 degrees C and >40 k bars, the heating is stopped, and the pressure is returned to normal.
