1,024,575. Distillation apparatus. DESALINATION PLANTS (DEVELOPERS OF ZARCHIN PROCESS) Ltd. Jan. 1, 1962 [April 14, 1961], No. 33224/65. Divided out of 1,024,571. Heading BIB. In distillation apparatus, suitable for separating potable water from sea water, comprising an evaporation chamber surrounded by an annular condensation chamber, the vapour is moved from the evaporation chamber to the condensation chamber by a rotary compressor 54 which has flexible impeller blades 144 connected radially to a hub 146 on drive shaft 196. The vapour is drawn into the compressor through an inlet 56 in the lower shroud 138 and is discharged into the condensation chamber through a circular opening 58 between the peripheries of the upper and lower shrouds 136, 138. Each blade is formed of an elongated thin strip of material, e.g. stainless steel, folded upon itself to provide a two-ply blade with a hollow eye 218 at one end, which is inserted into a bore 208 at the periphery of the hub 146. There is preferably an adhesive layer between the plies 214, 216 of the blades. The shrouds may be made of sheet metal, plastic or fibre glass.
