In a differential fluid pressure actuated diaphragm mechanism such as used in a water heater in which water passing along a pipe 35 and through a Venturi 37 and pip 40 communicates at the high pressure side 38 of the Venturi 37 with a chamber 14 on one side of a diaphragm and through an aperture 44 with lower pressure section of the Venturi 37 to a chamber 15 on the other side of the diaphragm 12 to move such diaphragm 12 which, through the intermediary of a spindle 31 controls a valve in the gas supply line to a burner the walls of the diaphragm housing is formed with two ports 21, 20, the port 21 leading to the zone 15 and the port 20 communicating with the zone 14 through an opening 19 in the diaphragm 12. A sealing rib 22 on the diaphragm 12 is cut-away at 27 on a passageway 54 is provided for communication between zone 14 and opening 19.
