Abstract

1,023,752. Oscillating gas column combustion chambers. K. B. OLSSON. May 17, 1963 [May 18, 1962], No. 19819/63. Heading F1L. A liquid, gaseous or pulverised fuel oscillating gas column combustion apparatus comprises first and second combustion chambers 4, 8 connected by a ceramic lined restriction 9 and supplied with fuel and air through an inlet 1 having a non-return flap valve 15 and diffuser 34. Chamber 8 exhausts through outlet 12. Pockets, such as 24, 25, are provided in the walls of chamber 4 to trap some of the combustion gases and thus ignite the following charge. The restriction 9 may also act as a hot point for ignition purposes. The relative dimensions of chambers 7 and 8 are given. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), an intermediate chamber 37 is positioned between chambers 4 and 8. Figures 2 to 6 and 8 to 8c (not shown) illustrate modified forms of pocket in the walls of chamber 4.
