Abstract

1525185 IC engine combustion chambers; exhaust gas recirculation NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 20 Aug 1976 [20 Aug 1975] 34765/76 Heading F1B A spark ignition I.C. engine comprises a combustion chamber having a main section 10 and an auxiliary section 12 connected only with the main section through a passage 11, a passage 15 being provided for admitting a combustible charge to the main section, the volume of the auxiliary section being from 3 to 20 percent of the volume of the main section and the cross sectional area of the passage 11 being from 0À1 cm<SP>2</SP> to 2À0 cm<SP>2</SP>. Exhaust gas is recirculated by way of a conduit 20 controlled by a valve 21 responsive to pressure in the inlet passage 3. A spark-plug 19 has its electrode extending into the auxiliary section of the combustion chamber. Air may be supplied to the exhaust passage 16 by an engine driven pump 33 through a check valve 30 and a nozzle 29. Exhaust gases are passed through a thermal reactor 5 or a catalylic connecter (35) Fig. 4 (not shown).
