[Also Group XI] An intermittent combustion chamber has at least two nozzles to spray liquid, gaseous or pulverized fuel over the whole volume of the chamber and a three-dimensional lattice structure composed of a refractory material, which occupies a substantial part of the furnace, to cause substantially simultaneous ignition of the injected fuel throughout the chamber. A waterjacketed combustion chamber 1 with an outlet duct 2 has fuel nozzles 5 with different spray angles and a tangential air inlet 6 with a non- return valve 7. A square-section lattice 8 of a refractory material such as heat-resisting steel becomes incandescent and causes ignition of the fuel.
