Abstract

1,023,085. Wells, &c. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 12, 1963], No. 37101/64. Heading E1F. Fluid from under-water wells 11, 11a, 11b is directed to a cylinder 25 extending from the water bed 12 to below the water surface 26 and is directed from the cylinder to a vessel 30 floating above the cylinder. The wells have lines 13, 13a, 13b for well fluid, and lines 14, 14a, 14b through which gas may be supplied to produce the well. The wells are connected to a unit 15 having high and low pressure gas separators 16, 17. Some of the lines 24 are supported on the outside of the cylinder and extend to the vessel which has storage tanks and separators 36. Other lines 24 enter lower part of the cylinder to supply oil from the wells to the cylinder, the oil level in the cylinder being maintained at a small distance from the water bed to prevent back pressure on the wells. The upper part of the cylinder supports a removable container 50 (Fig 4, not shown) housing motors 52, 54 driving centrifugal pumps 66-68 depending from the container into oil at the bottom of the cylinder to pump this oil to the vessel. Oil may be pumped from the vessel to submerged tanks 40-45, the oil being returned to the vessel by means of sea water displacement.
