Abstract

1,020,205. Endless conveyers; stacking-machines. R. L. AITKEN. Aug. 17, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 38460/63. Headings B8A and B8C. Sawn timber is stacked on a trolley 14 (Fig. 4, not shown) by feeding it from a planer (not shown) by spiral rolls 22 on to a stop (not shown) in alignment with an endless conveyer 12, the elevation of which is adjustable by the operation of an hydraulic cylinder 26. The conveyer 12 feeds a delivery conveyer 13 which is maintained at a fixed downward inclination by a parallel linkage 31. When a stack of desired height is formed, a trolley 15 carrying the conveyers is suitably moved on wheels 16, and a second stack is formed. The stacks are topped by a spacer 18 (Fig. 4) and then a further set of stacks are built up on top and so on. In a modification (not shown), the conveyers may be fixed and the trolley may be movable laterally. In a further modification, the trolley and conveyer are not arranged for movement relative to each other but the conveyer is moved laterally after the completion of each stack so as to enable a pusher to be moved into alignment with the stack which is thereby pushed out of the way of the next succeeding stack to be formed. The spiral rolls 22 may be replaced by a conveyer which feeds the timber laterally with respect to its length against a side-stop (Fig. 6, not shown).
