Abstract

1,220,922. Stacking machines. GRAHAMENOCK MFG. CO. Ltd. 23 May, 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 14131/67. Heading B8C. A machine for stacking articles, e.g. crates, comprises lifting mechanism 3 having a pair of feet 1 adapted to engage beneath a crate on opposite sides thereof for lifting the crate from a receiving section 7 of the machine, gripping means (not shown) for supporting the elevated crate, and means for moving the feet into a position in which they will not interfere with a further crate at the receiving section when the lifting mechanism 3 is returned to its lower position and for subsequently moving the feet into their crate-engaging position when mechanism 3 has reached its lower position. As shown, the means comprises a piston and cylinder assembly 4, which acts through a toggle linkage 5, 6 to move pivoted, feetcarrying arms 2 between the continuous and broken line positions shown. In operation, when the required number of crates has been stacked and the mechanism 3 is in its elevated position, control mechanism prevents the supply of further crates to the receiving section 7 and the feet 1 are caused to remain beneath the bottom crate of the elevated stack so that the whole stack may be lowered to section 7 by the mechanism 3.
