[Also in Division B7] Apparatus for use in replacing aircraft engines comprises a container for housing an engine and provided with engine-handling equipment and formed with two parts la, 1b connected to supporting frames 2, 3 and interconnected by screws 6, Fig. 1 (not shown). In operation, the container, housing a replacement engine, is transported, for example by helicopter, to the disabled aircraft. It is then lowered on to legs 5 by means of screw spindles in supporting trunnions 8, Fig. 1 (not shown), and castors 4 are transferred from the frame 3 to the frame 2. The connecting screws 6 of container parts la, lb are removed and the part la is pivoted down about the pivot 7b, Fig. 2. The supporting frame 2 is then pivoted down about the pivot 7a, Fig. 3 (not shown), and pedestal bearings 10 and hydraulic struts 9 are mounted on the frame 2 which is then moved into position below the nose of the disabled aircraft. After fixing supporting yokes 13, Fig. 4 (not shown), on the exhaust flange of the cylinders and connecting these yokes to the struts 9 and slackening the engine fixing bolts 15, the faulty engine is deposited on the frame 2, which is then towed away and deposited on its legs 5. The castors 4 are transferred to the frame 2 carrying the replacement engine which is then installed in the aircraft.
