Abstract
1,019,645. Submersible vessels. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. Oct. 25, 1963 [Nov. 26, 1962], No. 42146/63. Headings B7A, B7M and B7V. A submersible cargo carrying towed vesse<SP>1</SP> which maintains a substantially constant depth of immersion over a range of towing speeds, comprises an elongated rigid hull member having reserve buoyancy and a tow connection at the front portion of the upper deck, a pair of adjustable ballast tanks, one located in the fore body and the other located in the after body, and a fin, fixed to each side of the hull at a central portion of the hull at a point between the ballast tanks, the fins being fixed to have an incidence which is declined to the horizontal axis of the hull such that the fin induced force, the reserve buoyancy, the drag on the hull and the force applied to the tow connection maintain a condition of equilibrium at a substantially constant depth over a range of towing speeds. The hull may have a tow connection at the stern so that a train of hulls may be towed.
