Abstract

1,018,738. Inductors. ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING Ltd. Dec. 30, 1964 [Jan. 6, 1964], No. 531/64. Heading H1T. An inductive probe has a core formed by a bundle of ferromagnetic wires 1 (Fig. 4) bent backwards over the outer surface of a coil or coils 7 and is surrounded by an insulating member or covering. The coil 7 is disposed between epoxy resin or ceramic spacers 4, 5 and the core wires may be held thereon through a clamp 14 by a resilient clip 15 or a rubber 0-ring. The wire of coil 7 may be passed through a high temperature liquid resin during winding so that the turns bond to one another, to the core and to the spacer members. Insulation may be provided by heating in oxygen to oxidize and anneal the wire or the wire may be surrounded by glass fibre insulation or made of nickel chromium alloy. The insulating member surrounding the core and windings may be a sleeve of glass fibre filled nylon or the core and windings may be impregnated with and enclosed in epoxy resin. The apparatus may be provided with printed terminals 17 (Fig. 5, not shown) and cut or machined to give a required core length before being attached to a handle.
