Abstract
1,018,568. Continuous casting-machines. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1964 [March 6, 1963], No. 7872/64. Heading B3F. A starter bar for a continuous casting machine comprises a head 11 having a lower member 13 detachably connected to the bar 10 and to an upper member 12, said upper member 12 having means 15 which key to the casting and are detachably secured to the member 12 by keys 15a. The tongue- and-slot connection 12a, 13a between the upper and lower members 12, 13 is temporarily held together by a pin 14 for insertion of the bar into the mould, and the connection is broken by the deflector roll 22 which deflects the leading end of the casting on to a curved roller table 24, Fig. 5 (not shown).
