Abstract
919,283. Automatic knuckle couplers. NATIONAL CASTINGS CO. July 14, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 24179/59.Class 103(5). An automatic coupler has a knuckle 1B which is movable between a buff position, Figs. 1 and 7, where one side of its tail contacts the head side wall and its other side is spaced from the lock 3B, and a draft position, Fig. 8, where the said other side rests against the lock and the one side is spaced from the side wall, the throat surface of the knuckle in the buffing position being recessed or set back with respect to the pocket forming surface of the head, but in the draft position protruding into the pocket surface. The knuckle contour is modified from a 10A contour revised standard E type to reduce binding between knuckles, the new contour being shown in full lines on Fig. 2 against the 10A contour shown dotted. The conventional and improved dimensions 0.01 inch are given in table A in the description. Specification 667,581 and U.S.A. Specifications 2,007,450, 2,007,451, 2,007,452 and 2,245,043 are referred to.
