Abstract

889,195. Continuous-casting machines. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Jan. 28, 1959 [Feb. 21, 1958], No. 5697/58. Class 83 (1). A starter bar for a continuous casting operation comprises a first part 14 which is introduced into the molten trailing end of a cast length, a second part 12 on to which is cast the leading end of the next cast length, and a flexible connection 16 between the two said parts. The members 18, 21 which key into the castings may be released from the rest of the starter bar which is then used again, by the withdrawal of cotter pins 19, 22.
