Abstract

1,037,569. Continuous casting machines. SCHLOEMANN A.G. Dec. 28, 1964 [Jan. 28, 1964], No. 52579/64. Heading B3F. In a continuous casting-plant using a flexible starting bar, the bar is received on or supplied by a device 4, Fig. 1, which is tiltable so that its surface is movable out of the region of the rollers 2 on which the casting is further transported. The tilting may serve to detach the bar from the head which is engaged with the casting. The bar is drawn up the receiving device by a winch 14. In a modification, Fig. 3, the device is in the form of a segment 19 and a lower tiltable portion 22, and the winch for drawing the bar around the segment is driven through gearing from the driving rolls 46. The or each segment 19 may carry a number of starter bars of different sizes and is transversely movable to bring the appropriate bar into line with the feed axis.
