Abstract
1,131,457. Continuous casting. SOC. FIVES LILLE-CAIL. 23 Nov., 1965 [23 Nov., 1964], No. 49733/65. Heading B3F. Storage apparatus for a flexible starter bar used in continuous casting comprises a rotatable drum 10 located beyond the withdrawal rollers of the casting machine and having, on the periphery of the drum, a latch 28 which engages the end of the starter bar 30 so as to withdraw it from the casting machine, the speed of rotation of the drum being synchronized with the speed of casting. The starter bar may be wound on to the drum for storage or the drum may be used as a pulley to deflect the starter bar into a vertical well or storage conveyer. The drum may be mounted on a movable frame for displacement towards or away from the casting machine. A plurality of drums may be mounted side by side and driven from a common drive shaft 34.
