1,018,196. Tensioning ropes; shock-absorbing devices. J. A. POSFORD, R. PAVRY, J. F. C. SWANSBOURNE, and P. W. ROWLEY. May 26, 1964 [May 29, 1963], No. 21430/63. Heading B8B. A resilient device for holding a mooring hawser H, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a pulley 8 around which the hawser H is wound and which is yieldingly held against rotation by a tension cable 6 acting through a pulley 7, planetary reduction gear system 23, 24, 25 and shafts 14. The cable 6 passes over pulley blocks 2, 18 and operates to compress a spring 10 arranged between the blocks. One of the pulley blocks 2 is attached to a fixed mooring point R and the other block 18 is Attached to the frames 17, 18 on which the planetary reduction gear casing 11 is mounted. Cables H and pulleys 8 may be arranged in pairs to balance the system about a centre line.
