Abstract

1,017,689. Two-part couplings. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Aug. 26, 1964 [Aug. 27, 1963], No. 35030/64. Heading H2E. A plug 8, having a relatively rotatable cableprotecting sleeve 12; may be coupled to a socket 1 by a bayonet joint 10, 6, and the arrangement is such that when the plug is fully inserted, further relative arial movement is prevented by locking members 18 carried by the plug and releasable by withdrawing a ring 38, and electrical contact is only made when the plug is rotated to its fully locked position. On insertion of the plug, the members 18 are cammed inwardly against the action of springs 22 by a surface 4 at the entrance to the socket and on withdrawal of the ring 38 to release the plug, they are cammed inwardly by surfaces 38b. The ring 38 cannot rotate relative to the plug and may have an arm by which the plug may be rotated to final position in which its contacts 28 engage contacts 34 carried by the socket. The whole device may be operated by remote control, in which case manipulator supports are provided.
