1,016,883. Closing boxes and packages. LITOGRAFICA BODONIANA S.r.L. Sept. 25, 1962 [Oct. 14, 1961; April 24, 1962], No. 36447/62. Headings B8C and B8P. [Also in Division B6] A method of making boxes, wherein the box parts and particularly superposed flaps such as 6, 10, 11, 13 and/or 7, 9, 12, 14 of a blank 1 are glued together using a hot-bonding adhesive which is solid and non-sticky at room temperature and which is applied by a relief, intaglio, planographic, stencil or screen printing process to the blank, the parts of the box being heated and subjected to pressure during the gluing operation. Preferably the adhesive is applied during the course of a printing operation, e.g. by utilizing the final roller of a printing press, with substitution of the printing ink or dye by the adhesive in the form of a solution, dispersion, emulsion, powder or paste. Preferably, to fold and close the box, an automatic box-making and filling machine is used having heating and pressure-applying components. Outer surface areas of the box such as 3 and 5 may also be provided with the adhesive for the purpose of labelling.
