Abstract

1,256,097. Laminated cardboard. KYOKUTO SHIBOSAN K.K. 8 Sept., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 42636/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division D1] Fancy corrugated cardboard is made by continuously feeding along a front liner forming sheet and a fluted sheet having a back liner attached thereto, simultaneously heating the front liner and fluted sheet, printing a design on the heated front liner with an unsaturated fatty acid polymer emulsion containing pigment or dyestuff, applying a paste to the free surface of the fluted sheet and joining the latter to the front liner. Triple-walled cardboard may be made by using a further sheet consisting of a fluted sheet and a back liner. The polymeric coating agent may be prepared by reacting maleic acid, fumaric acid and pentaerythritol or vinyl toluene with an unsaturated fatty acid of fish oil or tall oil, adding petroleum resin, cumarone-indene resin and dehydrated castor oil, heating and polymerizing, adding paraffin, methylolamide and stearic anhydride, mixing in silica gel and emulsifying. The coating is applied by a roller which may have carved grooves or engravings. Apparatus for making the cardboard comprises a first sticking machine (not shown) for joining the back liner and fluted sheet, a preheater 5 for the front liner 2 and composite fluted sheet 4, a coating device 8, a pasting machine 9 and a second sticking machine 11.
