Abstract

1,014,748. Feeding sheets and webs. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. May 26, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 21736/64. Heading B6B. [Also in Divisions B4 and G2] Strip material 112 to be cut into sheets by means of a blade 78 (see Division B4) is fed from a roll 102 by means of rollers 86, 91 to engage retractable stops 55, to cause a loop to be formed between the blade and the rollers, a switch lever 99 being actuated when the loop is a predetermined size to close a switch 98 thereby energizing an electromagnet 82 to lower the blade to sever the material and at the same time actuate members 92 to hold the material and also energizing an electromagnet 93 to move the roller 91 away from the roller 86, the material passing over a displaceable roller 45 for flattening the loop when the members 92 are actuated. The roller 45 co-operates with switches 50, 51 in such a way that an electromagnetic coupling in the drive to the feed roller 42 is energized or de-energized according as switch 50 or 51 is actuated. Between the blade 78 and the stops 55, the material passes between guide belts 100 and 101. The leading edge of the severed sheet opens a switch 59. This causes de-energization of electromagnet 82 so that a spring 84 raises the blade to its initial position and, after a time delay, the electromagnet is de-energized to return the members 92 and the roller 91 to their initial positions. An image-bearing sheet to be copied (see Division G2) is fed over a table 26 until its leading edge engages stops 33 and operates a switch 36. Operation of the switch causes electromagnets 34, 56 to be energized in consequence of which stops 33 and 55 are lifted and rollers 32 and 54 forced into engagement with drive rollers 28 and 41, respectively. The image-bearing sheet and the sheet severed from material 112, which in this case is light-sensitive, are then gripped between the pairs of rollers 28, 32 and 41, 54, respectively, and brought together between rollers 13 and 15 and are then fed between an exposure cylinder 7 and driven conveying belts 9 round a copying lamp 8. After exposure, the sheets are separated, the light-sensitive sheet being moved to a guide plate 24 while the image-bearing sheet is moved to a guide plate 23. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 795,245.
