Abstract

1,013,317. Electric rail bonds. AMP Inc June 26, 1964 [June 27, 1963], No. 26456/64. Heading H2E. A connector for welding to a steel member 1, Fig. 1, e.g. a railway rail, comprises a soft iron shoe 9, Fig. 3, and a highly conductive malleable metal portion 10 for connection to a conductor or conductors 4 and to the shoe, the connection to the latter being made by a fused intermediate layer of highly conductive metal 14 and the connection of the connector to the steel member being made by welding the latter to the shoe. The conductors 4 are crimped or press-formed to the ferrule portions 11 of the malleable metal portion 10. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 9, the malleable metal portion is formed from a tube, the crimping ferrule 11 retaining the conductor, and the tongue portion 20 being secured to the shoe 9 by a fused intermediate layer of metal and by folded back ears punched from the former.
