Textile drafting apparatus comprises a control apron passing over a rotating roll and enclosing an apron positioning and clearing member, the member engaging the roll and a nose-portion of the apron spaced from the roll and having a radius of curvature smaller than that of the roll. The fibreengaging run of the apron may cooperate with a second apron supported conventionally or by a second member. As shown, two, aprons are provided and each contains a member 23 of Bakelite, Micarba Delrin (TMs) polyethylene or metal and having a concave surface 23a at one end corresponding in radius to a roll 17a or 17b and tapering at the other end to a convex nose 23b of radius of curvature small enough to permit the apron to extend into the nip of the front roll pair. The surface of the block engaged by the operative run of the apron and the opposite surface may be straight or convex, which the block occupies the whole internal zone of the apron and the leading-edge 23a 1 of the concave end 23a 1 of the concave end 23a acts as a scraper to clear the roll and the interior surface of the apron, whereby the internal zone of the apron is kept clear of lint. Interconnected pins 25 extending into apertures in the block serve to position the blocks, the apertures being larger than the pins to allow limited movement of the blocks. The pins may be separately mounted on leaf springs secured to the cradle.
