Abstract

Yarn is made by longitudinally advancing a non-twisted 15-2100 denier tow or bundle of manmade, parallel, continuous filaments of 1.5-15 individual denier along a straight path (as may be defined by two fixed ring or forked guides) adjacently is a smooth, convex, stationary surface e.g. a cylindrical or partly cylindrical surface as may be provided by a rod, and directing a gaseous jet across e.g. at right angles to, the tow path. The tow is deviated from its path under the impact of the jet and slidably progresses on the convex surface. The individual filaments of the tow intersect to form entanglements (so-called "false-knots" or "knot-clusters") which impart inter-filament cohesion, thus producing an effective yarn.
