Abstract

In the production of bulked yarn of a polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate or polyolefin, a bundle of filaments forming the yarn is passed and/or guided at least twice across the same or separate surfaces (as may be provided by one or more tungsten strips) heated to similar or different temperatures above the melting point of the filaments so as to heat the bundle at successive passes on the same or opposite side(s) continuously along its or opposite side(s) continuously along its length. The bundle is subjected to a shrinkage e.g. heat, treatment under reduced, tension whereby the filaments relax and become crimped.
