Abstract
1,012,116. Making cables. PIRELLI S.p.A. Jan. 31, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 4132/64. Addition to 827,410. Heading H1A. In the making of an oil-filled cable by the method described in the parent Specification, an inert gas such as carbon dioxide is introduced into the impregnating tank at its highest point, after impregnation of the cable core under vacuum, and is allowed to flow out through the funnel-shaped outlet to prevent entry of air until a vacuum-tight connection between the outlet and the sheathing press has been made, for example, by means of an extensible steel bellows. The apparatus is subsequently evacuated, after the cable end has been sealed and fed to the sheathing press, then refilled with oil and the sheathing process carried out.
