A method of making the preform of the parent Specification comprises providing a helical groove or grooves around the outer surface of the billet 1 and filling the groove or grooves with material 3, 4 of a different colour. The billet 1 may be extruded and the grooves machined thereon with an undercut contour to prevent loss of filling.
