Abstract

1,010,652. Reciprocating pumps and motors. COUNCIL FOR SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. Dec. 27, 1961 [Jan. 6, 1961], No. 610/61. Heading F1A. In a swash-plate pump or motor, the axis of tilt of the swash plate is offset with respect to the point of intersection of the axis of the drive shaft and the working surface of the swash plate, such that the reaction torque on the swash plate about its axis of tilt produced by the resultant of all the slipper thrusts is zero when the swash plate is in a predetermined intermediate position between its nostroke and full-stroke positions. The axis of tilt may be displaced transversely relative to the shaft axis by counter-rotation of eccentric bushes 18, 19 supporting the swash plate pivots 13. The pivots are mounted on ears 12<SP>1</SP> extending from the front of the swash plate 12. Ears 12<SP>1</SP> may be dimensioned such that the centre of gravity of the swash plate is located on its axis of tilt. In an alternative arrangement, the axis of tilt intersects the shaft axis at a point within the plane containing the piston slipper pivots.
