Abstract
1,010,271. Clutch control. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 20, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6618/61. Headings F2C, F2L and F2X. In a drive for an aircraft alternator an inner shaft 7 carrying a drive sprocket 9 has a splined connection 6 with the main alternator shaft 5 and is movable axially to disconnect the sprocket from the main drive, disconnection being effected by projecting a pin 39 radially inwards to hold stationary a nut member 15 which is normally rotated with the shaft. The nut member 15 is coupled to the drive shaft 7 by an intermediate screwed sleeve 12 with internal and external threads of opposite hand and the members are normally secured together by a radial shear pin 23. To disconnect the drive a solenoid-operated stop, Fig. 2 (not shown), is retracted to allow the pin 39 to be projected inwards by a spring 26 and engage one of a pair of lugs projecting from the member 15, which is thus held stationary, and the pin 23 shears at the inner or outer surface of the sleeve 12, according to the direction of drive, to effect displacement of the shaft 7. The movement of pin 39 cuts off the supply of lubricant to the bearings 3, 4 through passages 43, 44, 45, 47. For a one-way drive arrangement the intermediate sleeve 12 may be omitted.
