Abstract

884,523. Universal joints. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 4994/60. Class 80 (2). A universal joint between the stub shaft 12 of an A.C. generator in an aeroplane and a constant-speed hydraulic drive (not shown) comprises a hollow spindle 18 having external splines 20 at one end engaging splines in the stub shaft and external splines 22 at the other end engaging splines in a collar 24 having external splines 27 engaged by the hydraulic drive, a central bolt 28 threaded into an externally splined nut 30 holding the parts together. The hollow spindle 18 is filled with grease fed through passages 42 to the splines 20, 22 and prevented from escaping by sealing rings 44, 46. An end cap 34 held by a circlip covers the head of the bolt 28.
