Abstract

1,010,025. Textile treating apparatus. UNISEARCH Ltd, M. CHAIKIN, and A. SAMSON. April 2, 1964 [April 5, 1963], No. 13655/64. Heading D1L. [Also in Division F4] In a method of treating non-woven fibrous material the fibres are conveyed in a compressed state between two porous conveyers and are subjected to the action of atmospheric or conditioned air generally directed transversely to the direction of movement of the fibrous layer, the degree of compression of the fibres being such as to reduce relative movement of the fibres to a practical minimum whereby the tendency of the fibres to entangle is substantially reduced. In the arrangement shown fibrous material is placed on roller 1, which is partly wrapped around by an endless porous conveyer 2, and is conveyed and compressed between belt 2 and porous drum 3, and thence to delivery roller 4. The compressive force between the belt and the drum is induced by the tension in belt 2 produced by pivoted tensioning roller 5. Gaseous fluid may be applied under pressure to the fibrous material from within or from outside porous drum 3. From the outside, manifold 8, which may be partitioned to supply different gaseous substances of different conditions, distributes the fluid under pressure into pressure bore 9 so that it impinges on and passes through the moving fibrous layer into drum 3 from whence it is drawn via hood 10. For treatment from within drum 3 gaseous fluid is supplied through central pipe 12 to a manifold 13 which allows fluid to impinge on the moving compressed fibre layer. The treated material may be removed from belt 2 by a rotating heater 14. Alternatively the material may be conveyed between two porous conveyers.
