Abstract

1,009,996. Magnetic fasteners. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Aug. 17, 1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 31643/62. Heading E2A. A magnetic fastening device for fastening a door 9 or the like to a housing 1, comprises a first permanent magnet 6 mounted on the housing and a second permanent magnet 3 mounted on the door, wherein the magnets are so arranged that the directions of magnetisation of the magnets are parallel one to the other and to the opening direction of the door and that, during the closing movement, first like poles come within mutual range of action and at the end of closing movement, opposite poles act on one another. As shown, the magnet 3 is cylindrical with annular pole-plates 4 and 5, the magnet 6 is provided with pole-plates 7, 8 and the door 9 is closed against a resilient seal 10. In another arrangement, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the pole-plate 4 overlaps the pole-plate 8 and the pole-plate 7 overlaps the pole-plate 4 respectively. In further arrangements, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) the magnets are recessed into the door and housing respectively. In other arrangements, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) the magnets are in the form of plate, strip or band, which may be barium ferrite in powder form embedded in a plastics material and magnetised in the direction of its shortest dimension. The strips may be applied flat to the housing or door by sticking.
